Genotyping & Genetic Variation by Capillary Electrophoresis
Customers conducting genotyping and genetic variation by capillary electrophoresis are offered a variety of training options, making it easy for both experts and novice users to find the appropriate level of hands-on, real-world instruction. Choose from courses offered at Life Technologies Training Centers in Carlsbad, California, and Frederick, Maryland. In addition, we can conduct courses at your own facility, and Web-based training is also available.

CE-105: Sequencing and Fragment Analysis Training (4 days)
Who Should Attend?
This class is designed for users of capillary electrophoresis (CE) technology. Attendees will benefit by having training in a class environment, hands-on lab practicals and interaction with fellow attendees and Life Technologies application scientists during lecture and discussion sessions. The instrument used during the training will be the 3500 series.
This hands-on course is a 4-day intensive overview of DNA sequencing and fragment analysis applications. Course topics include application workflow setup and optimization; an overview of instrument hardware, operation and maintenance; use of data collection software; preparation and running of samples and standards; analysis software tutorials, and troubleshooting discussions. Students will run, analyze and troubleshoot sequencing samples as well as fragment analysis samples. Applied Biosystems 3500 instruments will be used for lab practicals.
Tuition includes laboratory reagents, consumables, course materials, breakfast, and lunch. Travel, hotel, and other incidental expenses relating to the training are the responsibility of the attendee.

CE-403: Capillary Electrophoresis Certified Instrument Operator Training (1 day)
Who Should Attend?
Laboratory personnel instrumental in maintaining and overseeing the use of their lab’s capillary electrophoresis genetic analyzer, as well as others interested in gaining a greater understanding of their instrument. During this hands-on interactive course, laboratory personnel will benefit from training on their own instrument and in their own working environment. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the Field Application Scientist during lecture and discussion sessions.
This training course provides the fundamental knowledge necessary to keep your lab’s instrument running according to manufacturer’s specifications. Topics include instrument hardware and software, calibrations, and basic maintenance recommended between visits from a field service engineer. Best practices related to instrument consumables, reagents, and basic troubleshooting of the Applied Biosystems™ Genetic Analyzer is also provided. Attendees passing a skills assessment with a score of 80% or higher will earn an Instrument Operator Certificate granted by the Thermo Fisher Scientific Service and Support Training Department.

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Training Center is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education (P.A.C.E.™) program.
Participants successfully completing CE-403 will be awarded 6 contact hours.
*Customer is responsible for providing an appropriate training facility and Applied Biosystems Genetic Analyzer (3500, 3500XL or 3730). In addition, participant must have access to capillary electrophoresis instrument accessories (i.e. array, plate base, retainer and septa, cathode buffer container septa, array port plug, and pump cleaning kit). Additional materials needed include general laboratory equipment (i.e., thermocycler, vortex, centrifuge, pipettes, plate sealers or film, plates, etc.), and general molecular biology consumables (i.e., molecular grade water, 1.5ml tubes, racks, etc.).
Upon purchase of this course, an FAS will contact the customer to schedule the training and ship the specific reagents needed for the selected protocol.

Online CE FAS Training/Consulting (hourly)
Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for labs performing Sanger sequencing or fragment analysis by capillary electrophoresis experiments, whether users are relatively inexperienced or highly advanced in the technology.
This interactive online session can help to enhance your research through application introduction, optimization or troubleshooting, experimental design, or workflow best practices. In addition primary or secondary data analysis using Applied Biosystems™ supported software may be also discussion topics to be covered.
